Brief

The post (published 2026-07-15) presents two voices: @bswud argues that the racist abuse of Black England players after the 2021 missed penalties was rightly condemned and shouldn’t recur, framing perpetrators as societal “dregs” rather than the majority. Nimco Ali (OBE) counters with a warning that the Black British community feels uneasy ahead of the England match because Black players are likely to face disproportionate hate if the team loses.

Why it matters

Author @bswud (post published 2026-07-15) states that the racist abuse of Black English players after the missed penalties in 2021 was “terrible” and was “rightly pushed back against heavily” by leading figures of society.

Key details

  • @bswud claims any similar abuse in the current tournament “won't be encouraged” and insists such racism is not widespread, describing it as the “real nasty dregs of society” rather than a broad tendency among normal people.
  • Nimco Ali (OBE) tweeted (status 2077337669068112129) that ahead of “tonight’s England game” the Black British community feel uneasy because if England lose, Black players will face hate the rest of the team won’t, and she directly challenges Reform supporters and MPs who have been trolling her.
Source evidence

Racist abuse of black English football players is terrible and it was rightly pushed back against heavily by all the leading lights of society after the missed penalties in 2021. It won't be encouraged if it happens this time either. We're all in this together. (I also think that it is not that widespread and represents the real nasty dregs of society rather than a broad tendency of normal people.)

Nimco Ali (OBE) (@NimkoAli)

Ahead of tonight’s England game, the Black British community is carrying an uneasy feeling. We desperately want it to come home, but we also know that if England lose, our brilliant Black players will face a level of hate the rest of the team simply won’t.

So let’s see how the Reform fanboys and MPs who have been trolling me since Saturday behave if the result doesn’t go our way.
