Author claims CTOs are expected to own AI strategy but often feel 'not an ai guy'…

Brief

Limestone Digital argues that forcing CTOs to 'own' AI strategy pushes many to hand it off or resign, which the author says strips organizations of AI-native experience. Their alternative embeds a harness so client engineers run and retain the capability, offered month-to-month with no lock-in/no discovery fee; they cite 'hundreds of engagements' as proof.

Why it matters

Author claims CTOs are expected to own AI strategy but often feel 'not an ai guy' and are forced to either resign or hand off the strategy to vendors—an outcome the author says 'ends the CTO's career' and removes AI-native experience (cites 'Point 3 in Gergely's list').

Key details

  • Limestone Digital's pitch: embed an AI 'harness' inside the client org so the client's engineers run it and standards remain after the vendor leaves; commercial terms are month-to-month with 'no lock-in' and 'no discovery fee', and the engagement is designed so the client needs the vendor less each quarter.
  • Track record claim: Limestone Digital reports 'hundreds of engagements' and says CTOs have taken their team with them to new companies—presented as evidence the capability stayed inside the org; author asks the survival test: if your AI vendor left Monday, what survives on Friday?
Source evidence

"CTO expected to own the AI strategy & too proud to say they're not an ai guy... = resign or handoff to us."

That's my industry's pitch.

Hand us the AI strategy, go back to running engineering, we'll own the outcome. It solves the CEO's problem this quarter.

And it ends the CTO's career.

Point 3 in Gergely's list is the whole thing. The AI-native experience is the asset now. Handing it off is how you guarantee you never have it.

So at Limestone Digital we sell the opposite.

We build the harness inside your org.
Your engineers run it.
The standards stay when we go.

Month-to-month. No lock-in. No discovery fee.

If we're doing this right you need us less every quarter, and that's by design.

Hundreds of engagements in, CTOs have taken our team with them to the next company. That only happens when the capability was theirs the whole time.

If your AI vendor walked on Monday, what survives inside your org on Friday?

Interesting trend:

CTO/ Head of Eng / VPE folks at startups and mid-sized companies are... leaving / burning out. Hiring for these roles is HARD, but even after filling the role, they will often leave a few months later and take a career break

And they have v good reasons
