Twitter/X

On 2026-07-27, @dharmesh announced he crossed 500,000 followers on X/Twitter.

Brief

Dharmesh celebrated surpassing 500,000 followers on X/Twitter (announced July 27, 2026) and explained why he favors X over LinkedIn: X's API provides programmatic access to profiles and posts for AI integration, replies remain less flooded with AI-generated comments, Grok works well via @mentions, and X feels more focused.

Why it matters

On 2026-07-27, @dharmesh announced he crossed 500,000 followers on X/Twitter.

Key details

  • He prefers X because it provides an API exposing core data (profiles, posts) that lets him automate access and integrate with AI tools like Claude and Codex or his own AI harness, whereas LinkedIn is closed and blocks programmatic access to his own data.
  • He says replies on X haven't degraded into AI-generated 'slop', Grok responds well to @mentions, X feels more product-focused than LinkedIn, and his wife prefers spending time on X rather than LinkedIn.
Source evidence

Woo hoo! Just crossed the 500k follower mark here on X/twitter (I use that sometimes, because it's "ex-twitter").

Have been reflecting a bit on what I appreciate about twitter vs. LinkedIn (which I do).

And, it comes down to some things that are important to me:

1) twitter actually has an API that provides access to the core data (profiles, posts, etc.) LinkedIn is frustratingly closed.

2) LinkedIn does not let me get to my own data in automated ways (which means I can't wire it up into Claude/Codex or my own AI harness).

3) The replies/comments here have not degraded into a lot of AI slop (LinkedIn has been getting worse over time). If I wanted feedback on a post from an AI model, I'd just paste my post to that model and get that feedback. Don't need someone to post an AI-generated comment on a post.

4) The product is more focused. LinkedIn has seen some sprawl over the years.

5) Grok is actually quite good and works really well when summoned via an at mention.

6) It's where my wife likes to spend her online time (she doesn't really access LinkedIn at all).

I know follower count is just a vanity metric but as it turns out, I'm a bit vain.

Thanks for all of your support and let me know if there's something you'd like to see more/less of.

Cheers.
