Jersey Mike's, the sandwich chain, filed to go public. Solid business, real revenue, nothing weird about it. Except the filing name-checks artificial intelligence twenty-two times. A sandwich shop. The internet treated it as a punchline about how silly AI hype has gotten, and it is funny.
But look past the joke for a second. Lawyers do not put a word in an S1 twenty-two times for fun. They do it because that word moves money. When a sandwich company's filing reads like an AI startup's, it is telling you something real about the market. Capital right now flows toward anything with AI attached to it, almost regardless of whether AI is central to the business. That is not a story about sandwiches. It is a yardstick for how cheap and how eager the money around AI has become, and cheap money always leaves a mark.
I break down what the AI money signals actually mean, minus the hype, each week: https://natesnewsletter.substack.com?r=1z4sm5&utmcampaign=post&utmmedium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
