Four subject lines to use in 2026

Brief

Sales strategist @SalesBlastBen (published 2026-06-17) recommends four tested cold-email subject lines and explains when to use each: a personal "Quick question" for high opens but excellent payloads, an influencer-focused coworker hook to reach DMs, a post-reference for GPT-segmented high-intent leads, and a direct company+problem line claimed to catch ~3% of ICP actively searching.

Why it matters

Four subject lines to use in 2026: "Quick question {first name}?", "Question about {coworker's first name}?", "Saw your post on {specific topic}", and "{Company} + {specific problem}" — each targets different list types and intent signals.

Key details

  • "Quick question {first name}?" retains one of the highest open rates but requires the email content to be 10/10 (offer something free or solve a real problem); "Saw your post on {specific topic}" works for segmented, high-intent leads and can be built using GPT.
  • "Question about {coworker's first name}?" is a tactic to engage influencers (operators/managers) to forward messages or intro decision-makers; "{Company} + {specific problem}" is direct — author claims ~3% of your ICP are actively looking when messaged, and it performs well on large tier-2/3 lists; niche products need narrower subject lines.

[4 SUBJECT LINES THAT WORK IN 2026] 👇

1 Quick question {first name}?

WHY IT WORKS: This is an oldie but goodie. Despite being every cold emailers favorite subject line... it still manages to get one of the highest open rates. If you want it to work for you, though, there's a catch: the content of your email must be 10/10. Offer something free or solve a real problem.

2 Question about {coworker's first name}?

WHY THIS WORKS: This works when you can't get ahold of a decision maker and default to an influencer in the account. Talk to an influencer (an operator or manager, usually) to get your message forwarded OR get an intro to the DM.

3 Saw your post on {specific topic}

WHY THIS WORKS: IF you have a segmented list of leads who have mentioned something in a post or comment about a pain that your product/service solves for (this can be done w/ GPT btw), then you have a list of incredibly high-intent leads. References their post makes the email feel (1) relevant and (2) well researched.

4 {Company} + {specific problem}

WHY THIS WORKS: It's direct. And 3% of your ICP is looking for your solution WHEN you message them. This works well for large lists. Especially tier 2 or tier 3 lists.

Small nuance: These are great for general emails.

But if you sell something niche, something less broad will outperform these.

What's a subject line you always go back to?
