On 2026-07-31 Adele Bloch (@adele_bloch) says she found a man at a coffee shop…

Brief

Adele Bloch recounts spotting a man with a “free 1 min coaching” sign and spending about an hour holding the sign and chatting with passersby. She recommends approaching people in slow, linger-friendly settings, using conversational openers (menu choices, product comments, post-class remarks), testing warmth, staying slightly longer, and repeating to get comfortable because strangers often welcome conversation.

Why it matters

On 2026-07-31 Adele Bloch (@adele_bloch) says she found a man at a coffee shop with a “free 1 min coaching” sign and, about 1 hour later, was holding the sign with him and talking to strangers outside.

Key details

  • Practical method: target slow spaces (coffee shops, lines, after yoga), avoid opening with 'hi', use easy intro lines like “I can't decide between X or Y,” “have any favorites you order here?”, comment on an item they're holding, or say “wow that yoga class was so great today.”
  • Behavioral advice: after the intro sense their appetite for connection, follow up with questions like “have you been here before?”, stay a little longer than usual to build comfort, repeat the practice to increase ease—Adele claims strangers are often excited to talk.
Source evidence

so I found this man at the coffee shop yesterday with a little “free 1 min coaching” sign so I went to talk to him

1 hour later we end up holding up his sign together outside & talking to strangers because why tf not !!!

you can just do things!!!

the art of talking to strangers in public:

  • do it in places where people generally linger. this can be in line, at coffee shops, after a yoga class, etc. there needs to be an element of slowness so you can easily strike up a convo
  • wouldn't recommend starting with 'hi' - that can be offputting and there isn't much to do that with that. you'll want an easier intro line
  • my favorites intro lines are almost as though you're letting them into your inner monologue
    like:

  • "I can't decide between X or Y (on the menu)"

  • "have any favorites that you order here? I want to try something new"
  • comment on a product they're holding or wearing
  • "wow that yoga class was so great today - I have to come again"

  • after you say this, you can usually sense their appetite for connection. if they feel warm and friendly, you can keep it going - "have you been here before?"

  • typically the conversation starts flowing from here!!
  • sometimes people aren't in the mood to chat and that's no biggie - you still got a nice quick interaction of the day. sometimes the conversations will go on longer and it can lead to a really wonderful interaction!
  • i'd encourage you to stay a little extra longer than you typically would. fight through the initial discomfort so that you can increase your appetite for this type of convo - repeat this whole process a few times to increase comfort with this!

you'll start to realize that people are EXCITED to talk to you!

strangers aren't as scary as they seem!

and you'll start living a life thats more open and fun!
