Don't tell AI what to do in 2026. Do this instead #AI #aiagents #Codex #Fable5 #automation

Brief

Nate B Jones (AI News & Strategy Daily) — short presentation — argues that prompt engineering is outdated in 2026 and recommends letting models inspect your files, Slack, and business processes to identify automation opportunities. He ran a head-to-head between Codex and Fable, which picked different problems; a detailed comparison is on his Substack.

Why it matters

Nate B Jones (AI News & Strategy Daily) says the 2026 skill is not prompt-writing but giving models access to your files, Slack, and workflow so they can autonomously find and propose what to automate.

Key details

  • He ran a head-to-head test between Codex and Fable; the two models picked different automation targets, showing model-specific problem-selection biases (video published 2026-08-03; full breakdown on his Substack).
Source evidence

For a couple of years the whole skill was writing a better prompt. You brought the problem, the AI brought the words. That is already outdated. The 2026 version is to hand the AI the problem-finding itself.

Here is what that looks like in practice. Instead of telling it what to fix, I turned it loose. Look at my files, read my Slacks, study how my business actually runs, and then come back and tell me what is worth automating and how. No prompt to perfect, no task to hand it. It has to notice the problem before it solves it. That is a different and far more useful thing than a model that just does what it is told, because most of us are bad at seeing our own bottlenecks in the first place. The interesting part is that when you do this, different models pick different problems, which tells you something about both the models and your business.

I ran this head-to-head with Codex and Fable and they disagreed. The full breakdown: https://natesnewsletter.substack.com/p/let-ai-pick-what-to-automate?r=1z4sm5&utmcampaign=post&utmmedium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
