zcode is recommended for users with their own hardware as a way to implement…

Brief

zcode is presented as a strong option for self-hosted hardware to run goals and loops, offering harness capabilities and easy provider integration. Lou (@louszbd) announced multiple updates: project-scoped memory, default form-mode automations with scheduled/idle views, a global anti-sleep switch, side chat (/side, /btw), and several UI/run-control improvements.

Why it matters

zcode is recommended for users with their own hardware as a way to implement goals and loops; it provides harness-like features and a simple method to add custom providers.

Key details

  • Lou (@louszbd) rolled out fixes and features: project-scoped memory; automations default to form mode and can be managed in scheduled and idle views; a global anti-sleep switch for long tasks; side chat via /side or /btw; manual runs now count on task cards; forward/back navigation and drag-resize editor during task setup; optional enhanced search at session start; configurable maximum output length; option to disable the question countdown.
Source evidence

If you have your own hardware zcode is a great way to do things like goals / loops.

It’s got all the features you’d want from a harness alongside a very simple way to add your own providers

Thanks for all the feedback! We’ve fixed many of the issues reported and added some new features:)

You can now:
- Keep memory scoped to each project.
- Create automations in form mode by default, and manage them in scheduled and idle views.
- Turn on a global anti-sleep switch for long running tasks.
- Open a side chat with /side or /btw.

A few more for better controls:
- Manual automation runs now count toward the total shown on task cards.
- You can move forward and back while setting up a task, and drag to resize the editor.
- You can choose whether to enable enhanced search when starting a session.
- You can set the maximum output length.
- You can turn off the question countdown.

Enjoy!
