Day 29 of 100 on taking LinkedMash to $2k MRR

Brief

LinkedMash stalled at $249.50 MRR (28 subs) and the team suspected a broken checkout. Live Stripe logs showed 27 sessions with 11 payments and 15 expired sessions, no failed charges. The misleading "started checkout" event fires on routing to the pricing page; customers were abandoning annual ($84) to buy monthly ($14), not failing at payment.

Why it matters

Day 29 of 100 on taking LinkedMash to $2k MRR: current MRR $249.50, 28 subscribers, seventh flat day.

Key details

  • Chiti pulled live Stripe data for the last 30 days: 27 checkout sessions, 11 paid, 15 expired, 1 still open, 10 distinct people paid, 0 failed charges.
  • "started checkout" analytics event fires when routed to the pricing page (six different clients call it that way), not at payment — four users opened an $84 annual checkout then returned to buy a $14 monthly (one abandoned $84 at 22:16 and paid $14 at 22:18).
Source evidence

Seven days, zero payments. The obvious guess was a broken checkout.

Chiti pulled the live Stripe data. Checkout was fine.

Last 30 days:
27 checkout sessions
11 paid
15 expired
1 still open
10 distinct people paid
0 failed charges

No declines, no dunning backlog, no broken webhook.

The event we had been reading as "started checkout" was lying. It fires the moment someone gets routed to the pricing page, nothing more. Six different clients in our code call it that way. Nobody had verified what it meant since the day it was written.

So the dashboard said people were bailing at payment. They were never at payment.

Then the expired sessions showed the real pattern.

Four people opened an $84 annual checkout, closed it, and came back to buy a cheaper monthly plan instead.
One did it in two minutes. $84 abandoned at 22:16, $14 paid at 22:18.

They were never lost. They were negotiating with the price tag.
