I think this is true - rn a very workable workflow is to have a coding agent on your laptop, have a folder filled with the things you need, and create good agent-facing indexes.

But what if the data you need is much bigger? What if the code you need to run requires a very expensive GPU? Or maybe it would be rewritten if an expensive GPU were available.

Ultimately, I see a fully cloud native coding agent as the obvious landing place, with newer legibility and alignment questions as the ability for long-timeline tasks becomes unmoored from the laptop.

Given some of the results I'm seeing recently, it's pretty clear Codex is a good harness.

But it will seem primitive in 2-3 months and we're about to go through another major evolution in how we use AI at the frontier. The next generation of models need more than your laptop.
