Brief

Danny Postma (@dannypostma) posted on 2026-08-06 about two days of progress on his multiplayer sandbox: added containers and item piles, house-based protected storage, plank-by-plank building that consumes planks and decays if unfed (Rust-style), doors with access control, crafting recipes, A* pathfinding, and ground piles that can be looted; abandoned bases self-clean.

Why it matters

On 2026-08-06, Danny Postma (@dannypostma) added containers and item piles; items dropped inside your house are protected from being looted by other players, making houses function as a save storage.

Key details

  • Building mechanics: houses are built plank-by-plank, you stock them with planks that are slowly consumed; if you stop feeding them they weather, rot, and dissolve back into the world ("Rust style"); doors swing open for you but enforce who else gets in.
  • Systems and design goals: A* pathfinding now lets characters walk around walls and through doors; crafting with recipes and tools is implemented; ground piles let players drop items anywhere (others can take them); every tile is player-made and abandoned bases self-clean to avoid map clutter.

Last 2 days of progress on my multiplayer sandbox game:

  • Houses: flatten the ground, plan it, then raise walls plank by plank
  • Doors that swing open for you, but decide who else gets in
  • You stock your house with planks and it slowly eats them. Stop feeding it and it weathers, rots, and dissolves back into the world (Rust style)
  • Crafting with recipes and tools
  • A* pathfinding, so characters walk around walls and through doors
  • Ground piles: drop your stuff anywhere, others can take it

The idea: every tile is player-made and nothing is permanent. Abandoned bases clean themselves up, so the map never fills with dead ruins.
