- The Fock–Nikolsky confrontation over quantum mechanics, 1936–1937
A remarkable three-paper exchange documents a technical dispute turning overtly political during the Great Terror. K. V. Nikolsky attacked prominent Soviet theorists; V. A. Fock answered him on scientific grounds; Nikolsky’s reply largely abandoned the mathematics and escalated into ideological accusation. Published while figures such as Matvei Bronstein and Lev Landau were in immediate danger, the exchange offers unusually direct evidence of how theoretical physics, professional rivalry, and political language became entangled. No evidence shows that these papers directly caused an arrest, but together they are among the archive’s most powerful primary documents. The three papers:

- Basov and Prokhorov, “Molecular Generator and Amplifier” (1955)
Two future Nobel laureates explain the maser just as quantum electronics was being born. The paper brings together state selection, population inversion, three-level pumping, oscillation thresholds, saturation, low-noise amplification, and atomic frequency standards—along with the authors’ own account of the priority question. Individual results reached Western readers through other channels, but this connected, first-person exposition appears not to have been available in English. It is probably the collection’s strongest general-audience scientific highlight.

This 44-page article appears to be the first comprehensive review of double-beta decay published anywhere. Written two years before the experimental detection of the neutrino by Reines and Cowan, it evaluates what was then known about neutrinos, examines the Majorana-versus-Dirac question, and surveys eleven experimental searches. No English translation was found through journal reprints, Cold War translation programs, or author-side publication routes. It is an unusually strong combination of scientific importance, historical priority, and genuine English-language inaccessibility.
