The economics of the giveaway are the real story. Automotive is Nvidia's smallest segment, $604 million last quarter against $62.3 billion in data center. A free frontier model looks like charity from a company printing those numbers.

Follow where the compute goes. Alpamayo 2 Super is a 32-billion-parameter reasoning model built to live in the cloud, where teams fine-tune it on their own driving data, generate synthetic long-tail scenarios, and distill it down for the car. Every one of those steps burns Nvidia GPUs. The distilled model then ships on DRIVE Thor, which is Nvidia silicon inside every vehicle, for the life of the fleet.

Google ran this play with Android. Give the operating system away and the industry standardizes on the layer you actually sell. Every AV program that builds from scratch is a bespoke customer Nvidia has to win. Every program that starts from Alpamayo is already inside the funnel on day one.

The demand side is lining up too. Uber committed to 100,000 level 4 vehicles on Nvidia's platform starting 2027, and Jensen is talking about billions of autonomous machines beyond cars: trucks, shuttles, tractors, delivery bots.

Waymo has guarded its driving stack as the crown jewel since 2009. Nvidia just declared the crown jewel a commodity. When the brain is free, all the margin flows to the body it runs on.
