Millennium and Anthropic are building a digital risk analyst with Claude | Claude by Anthropic

Brief

Millennium and Anthropic are jointly building a "digital risk analyst" using Claude and Claude Code to augment risk managers by surfacing new risk insights and forming opinions on exposure across asset classes. Launched publicly on August 6, 2026, the system is trained on Millennium’s proprietary data and evaluated in Millennium’s internal AI lab; Anthropic’s teams pressure-test Claude’s frontier models against demanding use cases. The analyst is designed to retain and recall information over time, explain daily risk changes, and deliver automated recommendations while logging its chain of reasoning and executing actions only after sandbox testing and human approval. Millennium currently deploys Claude broadly across trading desks, engineering, and 340+ investment teams, and positions this effort as a way to accelerate analysis while keeping human judgment central.

Why it matters

On August 6, 2026 Anthropic and Millennium announced they are co-developing a "digital risk analyst" built on Claude and Claude Code to assist Millennium’s risk managers across trading desks, engineering, core business functions and its 340+ investment teams.

Key details

  • The tool combines Millennium’s proprietary data with Anthropic’s frontier models to explain daily risk changes, retain and recall information over time, and produce automated recommendations that human risk managers must validate and approve.
  • Development and safety measures include auditable logging of the model’s reasoning, testing actions in sandboxed environments, and joint work inside Millennium’s internal AI lab with Anthropic research and applied teams.
  • Named executives quoted: Vlad Torgovnik (CIO, Millennium) emphasizing human judgment, Belinda Neal (MD, Financial Services, Anthropic) stressing trust in complex environments, and Peter Nolan (Head of Asset and Wealth Management, Anthropic) on reasoning and time savings.

Anthropic is working with Millennium, one of the world's largest alternative investment management firms, to co-develop a digital risk analyst: an AI teammate to work alongside and under the supervision of the firm's risk managers to surface new risk insights and form opinions on risk exposure across asset classes.

Claude and Claude Code are already used broadly across Millennium today - from trading desks and engineering to core business functions. Millennium’s digital risk analyst extends their use of Claude by helping risk managers expedite and enrich analysis of risk positions.

Evaluating financial risk with Claude

Investment firms have spent decades using technology to improve risk measurement, moving from traditional assessments to more complex real-time scenario analysis. Millennium’s digital risk analyst is designed to tackle critical workflows, powered by Millennium’s proprietary data and Claude’s frontier intelligence.

The digital risk analyst retains and recalls information over time, applying new reasoning capabilities to help explain daily risk changes. These findings are then validated and enriched by Millennium’s human risk managers.

“At Millennium, we believe AI can help set a new bar for what our people can achieve,” said Vlad Torgovnik, Chief Information Officer, at Millennium. “Our work with Anthropic is a great example of this and shows how AI is driving innovation in core parts of our business while keeping human judgment at the center of decision making. We are excited to continue our work with an industry leader finding new ways AI can add value to our business.”

How Millennium employees use Claude

Millennium was an early adopter of Claude and Claude Code. Employees use Claude Code to write software, build products, and improve workflows, including across many of Millennium's 340+ investment teams.

The digital risk analyst provides secure, auditable analysis by logging its reasoning, testing its actions in sandboxed environments, and requiring human experts to evaluate and approve its decisions. Millennium's risk experts are building it with Anthropic's research and applied AI teams working alongside them in Millennium’s AI lab.

Millennium is using its internal AI lab to continue pushing the frontier, pressure testing Anthropic's latest Claude models against ambitious use cases, and putting Claude to work innovating in a fast-paced environment.

"Financial services requires AI that people can trust in complex, demanding environments,” said Belinda Neal, Managing Director, Financial Services, at Anthropic. “Millennium has been an early adopter of Claude and Claude Code, and our work with its risk teams will show how AI can inform the analysis that risk managers at Millennium make every day.”

"Claude can reason through risk positions, explain daily changes, and carry what it learned into the next question,” said Peter Nolan, Head of Asset and Wealth Management, at Anthropic. “Millennium’s risk managers will use frontier intelligence to deliver automated recommendations with the goal of saving valuable time.”
