Anytime i read something like this, which was fantastic, I'm reminded of the song Immortal by Abby Holliday which is I think one of the better "non-cliche" songs about loss of a partner.
This totally random article breaks it down well (atwoodmagazine.com/immortal-…), but the TLDR is that Abby had only ever written songs about being disenchanted or not excited enough about being in love, effectively an entire discography of anti-love songs, and then she met her husband and realized she loved him so much that she couldn't entirely cope with the idea that he could die some day.
