Repeatedly I see the older sabotage the younger, because they prioritise their need to have their life choices vindicated, over their need to see you surpass them and do better than them. Those not of a self-sacrificing nature are thus not fit for romance, parenting or mentoring.

Age will often amplify your need for stability and less of risk-taking feats. Inner fears suppressed by a well curated excuse. Largely why experience and age doesn't necessarily translate to thoughtfulness, might just be insecurity masked as candid advice.
