Brief

Elad Gil published a concise how-to (sole.io/howtointro) on 2026-08-07 outlining five practical rules for asking high-touch introductions: send a fresh forwardable email, include brand/funder social proof, make a specific person/function request (e.g., Mira Murati), explain value to the introducer, and keep it to ~3 short paragraphs.

Why it matters

Elad Gil (tweeted 2026-08-07) published a five-point checklist for requesting high-touch introductions, consolidated at sole.io/howtointro.

Key details

  • Concrete rules: start a fresh forwardable email (don’t reply inline); explain who you are with brand/funder/social-proof; make a crisp ask naming the specific person or function (example: “Mira Murati or her team” for OpenAI).
  • Also: state why the intro benefits the other person, and keep the message to a single laptop screen (~3 paragraphs maximum).
Source evidence

I have reshared this advice so often, I even have a short URL for it. If you are asking for high-touch intros, be your best self. Follow these timeless rules.

Things to do when asking for an intro:

-Start a fresh clean email with a relevant subject line someone can forward easily. Dont reply with a bunch of crap inline alongside other musings, questions etc

-Explain who you are and why you are interesting/special. Drop some brand names in. Who funded you? Did you work somewhere important before? Show social proof.

-Have a crisp clean ask. "I want to talk to X person about Y, for this reason". If you are asking for an intro to a company (e.g. "I want to meet OpenAI" specify the specific person or function that is relevant "I was hoping to connect with Mira Murati or her team, given their focus on X, Y, Z")

-If it makes sense to do so, be explicit about why it is useful for the other person to take the intro.

-Keep all the text to a single screen on a laptop screen. It should be roughly 3 paragraphs at most.
