did you know a tree has to grow in two directions at the same time?
before it ever reaches for the light,
it sends its roots into the dark.
down into the cold.
down into the dirt.
down where nobody can see the work happening.
the roots follow gravity.
the stem fights its way upward toward the sun.
and maybe that’s what life looks like too.
everybody celebrates the moment you finally break through the surface.
they don’t see the years you spent underground.
the lonely nights.
the failures.
the doubt.
the work that felt like it was taking you in the wrong direction.
but you weren’t falling.
you were building roots.
because the work you do in the dark
when it’s difficult, uncomfortable, and nobody is watching
is what allows you to stand when the light finally finds you.
before a tree can rise,
it has to find it's roots.
