There is a sort of cousin to the Platner Leftist Working Class Cosplay thing going on where ‘image of regular person’ is ‘person with a bunch of signifiers of failure’. But regular people typically like normal people who work hard and do well in life.

I find it insulting both to Hong and to academia to use “faculty lounge” as shorthand for her political beliefs. Hong attended public schools, dropped out of college and started working in restaurants before getting into politics.
