Blake Scholl (Aug 8, 2026) recommends founders build strategy skills by imagining…

Brief

Blake Scholl argues founders should sharpen strategy by role‑playing as a CEO of another firm; applying the exercise to mobile, he predicts terrestrial networks will dominate dense urban areas while direct‑to‑cell satellites serve elsewhere. He recommends legacy carriers forge an exclusive partnership with Starlink, merge networks into a hybrid, and outcompete other carriers.

Why it matters

Blake Scholl (Aug 8, 2026) recommends founders build strategy skills by imagining themselves CEO of another company—especially one facing a major challenge—and running the scenario with realistic constraints as a regular exercise.

Key details

  • As a hypothetical mobile CEO, Scholl predicts terrestrial networks will win in high‑population dense areas while direct‑to‑cell satellites cover everywhere else; he calls the ultimate winner a hybrid network and advises legacy carriers to strike an exclusive partnership with Starlink, merge the networks, and 'mog' other carriers.
Source evidence

Founders: one way to build your strategy skills is to imagine yourself CEO of another company—particularly one facing a big challenge—and think through what you would do, with all the realistic constraints.

I’ve learned a lot running this exercise—and it’s fun!

If I was a mobile CEO, my bet would be that terrestrial networks will win in high population dense areas and direct to cell satellite everywhere else. The winning network is going to be hybrid, and the sat network has the power because there is only good one but many terrestrial cell networks.

So the winning strategy for a legacy mobile carrier would be to strike a deep exclusive partnership with @starlink, merge the networks, and mog all the other mobile carriers.

QED?
