Because "British food" to most people is a string of folklore-type tales passed down from being stationed there during WW2, when the country was undergoing strict rationing
It's like blacks thinking whites eat bland food because they only get it in public school and prison
Roast, meat pies, devilled kidneys, puddings, etc. are all fabulous, but also weren't overly common when sitting around camp waiting for D-Day or the next bomber mission

I sincerely do not understand why people talk smack about British food. We have had amazing meal after amazing meal here. I have liked the food MUCH better than when we were in Italy. Sorry but it’s true!
