Author says Balkan/Bosnian-owned, 'hole-in-the-wall' remodeling stores…

Brief

MultifamilyMad (shared by @JustAFamilyMan_) outlines a low-cost renovation playbook: rely on Bosnian/Balkan-owned, low-overhead suppliers for flooring, doors and trim; use a Lowe's Pro-Account with a personal rep for deep discounts on cabinets and appliances; and lock in cheap labor by placing large, steady orders and cultivating small crews over years of trial and error.

Why it matters

Author says Balkan/Bosnian-owned, 'hole-in-the-wall' remodeling stores consistently offer the best prices for flooring, doors, trim and will 'always give you a deal.'

Key details

  • MultifamilyMad uses a large Lowe's Pro-Account with a personal rep to secure deep discounts on cabinets and appliances while still buying some items retail.
  • He places large orders with small, low-overhead shops, hires a two-man Bosnian crew for granite/sink installs, and keeps contractors busy with steady apartment renovation volume—strategies developed over years of trial and error to cut costs.

Lowkey those Balkan owned remodeling stores have some of the best prices around. I don’t know how they do it, but they are always going to give you a deal.

I get messages all the time asking how I renovate apartments for so cheap.

There are a few answers to that.

I don’t go to Lowe’s/Home Depot and buy everything for retail. I source material from all different places.

I do go to Lowe’s for a decent amount of items but I have a very large Pro-Account with a personal rep to get deep discounts on cabinets, appliances and other misc items.

I work with a lot of smaller shops that do a decent amount of business but do not have a lot of overhead. I place large orders with them to get the low cost even lower.

Here are some pictures of one of them.

A single, hole in the wall place. Doesn’t market or advertise, owned by a Bosnian guy who is great to work with. This is where I get flooring, doors, trim and other items.
*Shoutout to Dan on here for the intro!

I have another Bosnian guy that does all of my granite/sink installs, small two man shop.

The contractors I work with, I keep very busy so they do not need other clients because I give them apartment after apartment to renovate and therefore I get a great price because of the steady work.

This stuff didn’t happen overnight.

Years of trial and error, finding the right guys after going through with the wrong ones.
