@swyx launched a "kill my SaaS in a weekend" competition (published 2026-08-08)…

Brief

@swyx launched a weekend hackathon (published 2026-08-08) offering $10,000 plus a @latentspacepod writeup to teams that clone a target SaaS. Any coding agent/model is allowed, entrants are limited to $500 token spend (organizer will fund up to $1,000), brief on Luma, finish line extended to Wednesday. The goal: expose "low-moat" SMB SaaS by iterating harder targets until they prove hard to replicate.

Why it matters

@swyx launched a "kill my SaaS in a weekend" competition (published 2026-08-08) offering a $10,000 cash prize and a @latentspacepod writeup to the winner.

Key details

  • Rules: any coding agent and any model allowed, participants limited to $500 in token spend (including subscriptions), organizer covers up to $1,000 in tokens for entrants; brief hosted on Luma and the finish line was extended to Wednesday.
  • @swyx frames the contest as retaliation against "high-margin, low-moat" SaaS — his team currently considers paying >$40k/year for an enterprise SaaS they never customize — and intends to repeat increasingly ambitious hacks to find what SaaS can't be cloned in a weekend; all submissions must be open source.

eval competition idea: Help kill my SaaS

my team is proposing to pay >$40k/year for enterprise saas we have never used and will never be able to customize.

as a smol business owner, this feels shitty.

thinking of doing a small remote hackathon:
- i cover $1000 in tokens for you
- you do your best to clone this SaaS in a weekend
- my team (your prospective customer) evals it
- winner gets $10,000 cash & @latentspacepod writeup
- all code is open sourced

everyone wins except high margin low moat saas.
we keep doing this with increasingly ambitious saas things for SMBs until we find the boundary of what saas is still hard to kill in a weekend.

does that work?
