Another small but interesting Google Cloud deal: $100m+ of TPU/GPU compute to Mirendil for self-improving AI research.
Alongside Alphabet backing and supplying cloud to Jeff Dean’s new Discovery Loop lab, this may be the near-term playbook: keep Gemini and enterprise distribution in-house, while using GCP capacity and strategic partnerships to retain upside on labs attacking continual learning, autonomous research and other still-unsolved frontier problems.
Too early to call it a shift, but worth watching whether Google increasingly becomes the compute partner for these external frontier bets.
