Both guests argued that customer expectations (driven by consumer digital services), rising electricity demand and climate-driven storm frequency force utilities toward proactive strategies: better forecasting, more automated restoration, and richer customer-facing experiences. Priyanka highlighted the business-customer imperative (≈10% of customers, >60% of revenue/load) and cited that ~12% of outages are due to infrastructure failures, while Peter noted U.S. consumers averaged about 5.5 hours of outages in 2022.
The hosts agreed that success requires people, process and technology: clean, governed data (crew status from mobile devices, outage cause from OMS/ADMS, CIS contact preferences) plus field-worker training so ETRs are accurate and trusted. They stressed new KPIs—ETR accuracy and update cadence, channel adoption, self-service metrics—alongside legacy reliability indexes (SAIDI/SAIFI). Resilience themes included infrastructure upgrades, DER/EV complexity, cybersecurity and the need for regulatory incentives. Both emphasized integration costs and that data governance can consume 10–25% of modernization budgets, but pointed to measurable wins (large call-volume reductions and higher satisfaction) from targeted digital investments.
