A massive thanks to everyone who contributed directly or via Venmo to_ _Food for All_ _in Maine this past week — we raised over $16k, which will help provide Halal & culturally specific food for 300 families sheltering-in-place because of ICE surveillance. I've linked to the donation receipt __in the General CS Chat_ _. So long as ICE keeps making life miserable for our neighbors, we'll keep trying to make it less miserable — next week we'll turn our focus to rent funds. Half the country got snow and ice and we got: clear blue skies and the perfect winter temperature of 34 degrees. We got light blankets of frost and morning fires in the fireplace and alpenglow on Mt. Baker. If your power went out or you're battling stubborn ice, I'm sorry and I hope the melt comes soon. But as weeks of rain and grey return to the PNW, I'm grateful for the respite — and for a quick lark of a trip down to Portland with friends to go to an in-person dahlia sale that had the energy of a Tickle-Me-Elmo-era Black Friday. (We didn't really go for the tubers, we went for the change of scenery and some really good Russian food).
I've also amassed a healthy collection of links/recs — which is behind the paywall because for whatever reason stuff like this prompts people to actually subscribe to the stuff they read and love every week.
