TL;DR: I built a new webapp. If you do a lot of fundamental research with LLMs, you'll probably love it. I'm recruiting a small group of beta testers. You can sign up here . Full release coming in ~4 weeks.
Hi, my name is Unemployed, and I am an LLM addict.
When they work, LLMs are absolute magic. You punch in whatever random question is and out pops an answer that would have taken you a few hours to put together.
Absolute cinema.
But if you are a hardcore addict like me, and use it to do a lot of investment research, you've probably noticed a few things.
They don't always get the right context - many times, they'll pull in random shit from all over the internet to answer your query. They also don't know anything about you - your portfolio, watchlists, areas of interest, etc.
They are pretty inflexible in the types of request they can carry out. For example, getting it to do multi-company query / comparison is outright impossible.
Searching / viewing output can be painful. How many times have you tried searching through your ChatGPT logs, only to re-run the same thing?
And sometimes - you want to download filings to use them in NotebookLM - but this takes you longer than how long it takes to generate the damn report.
These frustrations by themselves may be just little annoyances. But - you've also likely noticed how your research scales differently now. You used to run research over 5 companies a week, spending a few hours on each. Now you can run them over 5 companies in 5 minutes. At this speed, every friction feels 10x worse than before. You forget which company you looked at last week. Your alerts system is creaking. You have way too many things happening at the same time - and oh wait, who was reporting this week?
What if....
There was one place you can go to check basic info, filings, prices, watchlists, notes, tasks and quick models?
A way to let LLMs access your portfolio list, list of relevant documents, your report template, and always correct basic data?
A way to get the LLM to come up with a research plan that you review and approve?
LLMs saved the report outputs to your webapp, where it lives alongside your own notes?
I'm pleased to announce my latest project: FirstDraftResearch (1DR)
1DR combines a few things
Company search that works - Yahoo Finance is the GOAT. But its search sucks. This one actually works.
An opinionated company page that gives you what you need.
A super readable quick description + enhanced description so you can quickly understand what that random company does, and get quick segment breakdown information.
Custom share count, EV corrections in case the data source is wrong.
A price chart with filings overlaid so you can see why the price might have moved.
Categorized filings with quick open, link copy and download
Ability to take custom notes, with images and attachments.
Social features that don't suck - every company page has discussion board that you can ignore entirely or participate in.
And lots more ... watchlists, target prices, alerts, models. ....
What about that thing I was saying earlier about models?
If you're a Claude Code user - you're in for a treat.
1DR comes with a CLI application that can fully drive the webapp. This enables you to launch questions like "Which of the companies in my watchlist #5 released earnings over the last 10 days? Create an earnings report for each"
or
"Go through the last 3 years of POOL earnings calls. Every time management gave forward guidance or made a specific claim about demand trends, check it against what actually happened the following quarter. Build me a scorecard — how often are they sandbagging, how often are they wrong, and on what topics do they consistently miss?"
And it will produce these reports, and save them to the webapp for your review
Does this sound like something that you're interested in?
