Robotics on Powerlines! - Fulcrum Air

Brief

Fulcrum Air (presenter Will) provides a demo-style presentation of its Linefly robotics suite for powerline work, including two bird-diverter installation robots and a new spacer-line prototype. The Linefly bird-diverter robots — one for Powerline Sentry Hawkeye (12 cartridges, ~400–700 installs/day) and one for PLP spiral diverters (8 cartridges) — are placed on overhead shield wire/OPGW, programmed with installation intervals (e.g., 15 ft, 30 ft), then run in auto mode while a pilot and robotics operator monitor dual camera feeds. The spacer prototype installs twin-bundle spacers remotely using a shear-head/torque-bolt method that captures the bolt head and holds three spacers per run; a Q1–Q2 2026 commercial rollout was targeted. The full drone+robot system stays under 55 lb (25 kg) for regulatory compliance, operates up to ~2 km, and is currently offered as a subcontracted turnkey service while the company develops training and equipment-access options for utility clients.
