Basically: you’re either constantly failing because you’re not doing enough, or you’re giving yourself so much permission to not be disciplined that you don’t even do anything. There’s a third way where you can view your entire life & existence about building things.

It is really hard to write about music, and classical music in particular. All I really articulate about Ode to Joy is that it’s wonderful & makes me feel alive. Dean does better: _“If you close your eyes, you should be able to imagine the fans of a victorious sports team drunkenly belting this theme out, arms wrapped round one another, beer sloshing around in steins. It should be played like the anthem of our species that Beethoven so clearly intended it to be. It should positively swagger.”

Tyler Cowen’s continued thoughts on legislation against phone usage in schools (article)
If parents don’t like phone usage, why don’t they use software to control their kids’ usage? If the software is bad, require the phone companies to make it better. I find Tyler’s posts on phone usage in kids compelling. The “other side” seems to be more full of emotion & narrative, though my feelings are the same.
