Running a business is actually fun. This gets lost in the conversation sometimes, mainly because there’s tons of content online that just tells you over and over that business is just a monotonous grind. While it’s certainly true that you have to work hard, what a lot of people don’t mention is that the work is actually incredibly rewarding. The reason you know this is true is that if you polled business owners and asked them if they’d rather be doing anything else, many would say “no”. That poll would obviously have very different results if you asked employees. Why Running a Business is Fun When you run a business, you can watch yourself go from 1 unit, to 2 units, to 10 units, to 100 units to 500 units. And during that time, you go from being very involved yourself to having more and more layers of management. You can physically see the building occurring (you can see the additional properties you own) and you can feel the building occurring (you notice your personal workload getting lighter). There is an immense sense of satisfaction you get from watching this progress that’s basically impossible to get at a job. You can look around and say “I built this”.And this happens across the entire business. Systems get tighter, costs go down, money gets easier to make. You are imposing your will on the world. Each choice you make has an impact and that impact directly results in you making more money. The rewards are immense. This can also be seen by the people you employ – your employees. As an example, in the last 3 months, one of my employees bought an engagement ring, one of them bought a house and another one bought a truck. That’s objectively really cool.I know for a fact that they wouldn’t be able to live the lives they do if I didn’t exist. So, when you run a business, you have:
Visible progress you get to watch
Tangible rewards (you make a ton of money if you make the right decisions)
Spiritually rewarding work (you can see all the good you’re doing for your employees)
It’s honestly very fun once you get going. If You Don’t Find Your Job Fulfilling, Maybe it’s Time to Consider Starting a Business Most people have grievances about their job. Some of those grievances are about their boss, some of them are about their hours, but a lot are about the work itself. Why is that? Because it’s not fulfilling.Humans were meant to build - whether that’s a Lego structure, a tree house or a business. And in order to feel like you’re building, you need to have true responsibility. That’s where the sense of accomplishment comes from.Because of this, a lot of times, you will be *more* happy the more responsibility you have. So, if you’re currently clocking in every day at a job you don’t really like, maybe it’s time to consider starting a business, instead of switching jobs – your could be unconsciously yearning for more fulfilling work.
