What’s most remarkable about the leftward swing of so many big and prominent US cities—I’d add Chicago and Boston to the list—is that it happened right when conventional wisdom held that “urban disorder” was going to produce a big shift rightward. Could not have been more wrong.

After the DSA wins New York, Seattle, DC, and (potentially) the LA mayoral races, I think the center left needs to acknowledge that its infrastructure in major American cities is broken, that we are being flatly out-organized, and settling for uninspiring candidates.
