Hard left policies make blue cities unlivable
They create urban flight
They destroy jobs
The preferred way for left NIMBYs to win is make the city so terrible, expensive, unaffordable and unsafe that they make normal people leave

I honestly think a lot of Yimbys are fighting the last war when it comes to affordability and don't understand why progressive areas are unaffordable
Seattle had the largest decline in home prices of any city in the last year but the highest inflation. Doesn't that contradict YIMBY assumptions about housing being the primary driving force behind unaffordability on the West Coast?
It seems to me a lot of liberal supporters of housing construction are too supportive of Democratic politicians and don't want to recognize that the unaffordability of blue states is driven by the overall anti-production political ideology. Progressive areas remain unaffordable irrespective of what happens to housing costs. Housing is merely one unaffordable element in progressive cities and if housing costs drop, everything else remains unaffordable because they throttle the supply of all goods, not just housing. Unless progressives are willing to support supply-side policies for all goods - which they never will be - a decline of housing prices is insufficient to matter when it comes to the overall unaffordability of a progressive metro area
The fact Seattle and Portland remain such tough places to live in the face of declining housing demand proves my point. In Portland's case it is unaffordable because government taxes and fees are too high and in Seattle it is unaffordable because of massive inflation caused by the overall regulatory environment. Housing is not the primary driving force behind the unaffordability of either city at this point in time
