I think Patrick Collison once noted that all successful companies look like a hair-on-fire mess from the inside and perfect from the outside.
So employees tend to think that their own companies are much worse than other ones.
I think the same dynamic basically exists for countries. Or even Instagram: you see all the flaws of your own life and only the highlight reel of someone else's. Basic perspective error
