Anthropic says Fable 5 will be back online "in coming days."
At a press conference in Seoul this week, the company's international managing director said: "We are very confident that in the coming days, the models will become available again."
Maybe. No finalized agreement has been confirmed.
But the more important story is not whether access comes back.
It is what this week revealed.
The US government now has a demonstrated kill switch over the most advanced AI model in the world. It took one letter and 72 hours to use it. Meanwhile, at the G7 in France, France and India were separately raising the same question: what happens to your economy when the AI infrastructure it depends on can be switched off by a foreign government?
They now have the answer.
Access to frontier AI is not a product feature. It is a geopolitical permission. And the first time that permission was revoked, it took down a company's flagship consumer model in every country simultaneously.
Every government building AI strategy on US infrastructure watched this happen in real time.
Some of them are rethinking it.
